Mine was doing the same thing. I took off the top (remove the two screws underneath the panel strip under the controls, then lift from the front using a putty knife to push in the two clips) and removed the agitator (bolt in top under softener cup. On the agitator shaft is a collar with two bolts through it. One of mine was missing. The washer made a huge racket when spinning and would go out of balance easy empty or full.
Do you have this noise when operating an empty machine ?
It could be cause an unbalanced load of clothes. Stop the machine, redistribute the clothes and re-start the machine.
In case you still have this noise, the problem is with the transmition between the drive motor and the inner tub.
